Sports Ambassadors

Sports Ambassadors

We are delighted to welcome Simon Witts as our new sports ambassador. He joins Lizzie Sykes in this role. Both Lizzie and Simon are in Y13 and are excellent role models to both King Edward's students & the primary school children. Lizzie and Simon will be fully involved in the family festivals that run regularly throughout the year.

MP Visit

To discover more about the continuing efforts to develop 'formal club link agreements' Stafford MP David Kidney visited some schools in the school sport partnership.

At King Edwards he spent 45 minutes in the sportshall with a group of Y9 & Y10 girls. They were involved in a tag rugby coaching session. Neil Maguire & Richard Gayton from Stafford Rugby club led the session.

Stafford Rugby Club is one of the clubs with which formal club links have been agreed.

The Staffordshire Newsletter ran a picture feature of the event on 9th October 2008

Sports Leaders at St Lawrence

Y11 students who are fortunate to be timetabled PE on Friday afternoons have had the opportunity to follow a sports leadership course based at St Lawrence Gnosall.

The Y11 students chose to teach either football, netball or dance to a small group.

3 classes of year 5 or year 6 children rotated around each of the activities.

The series of lessons were very successful. Both the sports leaders & the Year 5 & 6 children benefited from the experience.

Football Festivals

Tuesday 14th October 2008

3.30 - 5.30pm

Sports leaders from Y12 at King Edward VI High School's Step into Sport programme plus other sports leaders from Y11 & Y10 acted as officials, time keepers & recorders of the results of two 5 a side football festivals. (this involved around 25 students)

Two festivals took place on the school fields, one for Years 5 & 6 the other for Years 3 & 4.

All schools from the King Edwards family were invited to participate, entering as many teams as they wish. This resulted in 18 teams (in excess of 130 primary children) participating in the festival.

Members of the junior section of Stafford Rangers FC were present during the festival, developing school club links.

Additionally Everton & England Ladies footballer Lindsay Johnson attended the event to give a motivational introduction & some coaching. She also presented the prizes to the winning teams.

Certificates presented by Lindsay Johnson

Both events were closely competed for. The atmosphere was one that encouraged fair play, sportsmanship & enjoyment. There were many parents present supporting their children.
