Active Plus

Active Plus is a ten week programme to support young people aged between 7-13 years to achieve their primary goal of maintaining a healthy weight, weight maintenance or weight loss through an extended programme of fun, physical activity sessions.

Active Plus was developed by the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership in 2008 in conjunction with Staffordshire Children’s Fund.

Primarily Active Plus is an after school club to help young people maintain a healthy weight, increase activity levels and help with weight loss.

Initially only six schools were willing to be involved in the programme in 2008, whereas twenty nine schools are now engaged.  Each school is provided with 30 weeks of activity per academic year for targeted children.
Approximately 300 young people participate every year in Active Plus.

May 2011 saw a new era for Active Plus with all participants now being measured (height and weight) at the start and conclusion of each ten weeks. Qualified coaching staff from the School Sport Partnership and local coaching agencies provide fun, pulse raising activities each week.  Activities include tennis, swimming, climbing, cheerleading, multi-skills and much more.
