29th November 2011
On Tuesday 29th November 2011 240 pupils from eight primary schools within Stafford and Stone descended upon Blessed William Howard for the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership Years 5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics Final. Each of the schools had previously qualified via great performances in their respective heats, yet all saved their best efforts to make for an exciting and closely contested final.
Track events consisted of an array of sprint and obstacle relays. The field events were made up of; chest push, speed bounce, javelin, long jump, triple jump and the vertical jump.

St. John's CE Primary School was the eventual winner with a grand total of 276 points followed by Barnfields with 264 points and in third place, Bishop Lonsdale with 244 points. Fourth was St. Leonard's with 238 points in total and only four points behind them was Walton Priory. St. Austin's came sixth, Burton Manor seventh and last but by no means least Castlechurch. St. John's will now go on to represent Stafford and Stone in the county finals to be held at Fenton Manor in Stoke on Trent.
The winners of the boys competition was St. Austin's with 146 points aided by an astounding four wins out of a possible six in the track events
The winner of the girl's competition was St. Leonards with a huge total of 160 points gained by three first places and two second places in the track events.
The previous night saw the secondary schools battle it out. In the girls events Weston Road High School dominated events by winning both the Year 7 and Year 8 events. In the boy's competitions, Walton Priory were successful in the Year 7 event and Walton High in the Year 8 competition.
A huge thank you must go to Blessed William Howard for providing a venue, as well as its staff and pupils from year 9 who volunteered their time to assist in running the event organised by the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership.
Steve Glover, Partnership Development Manager said, "Both finals were extremely entertaining and highly competitive. It was great to see so hundreds of young people take part in such a sporting manner. I now wish the winning teams luck in their respective finals in the new year."
