Young Ambassadors

In Singapore in July 2005, London won the right to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In the presentation in Singapore, London made a promise to the world that showed the commitment from London to use the power of the Games to inspire millions of young people to choose sport. This became known as the Singapore Promise. The Young Ambassador Programme was born and initiated in the summer of 2006 and a direct response to realising the Singapore Promise. Outcomes of the Programme and role of the Young Ambassadors for 2010-11

The outcomes and role of Young Ambassadors are simple and are becoming well embedded and understood in the work of school sport Partnerships. The focus of the programme is on young people using the inspiration of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to:

  • Increase participation of other young people and in doing so and contribute to the achievement of the 5 hour offer.
  • Promote healthy, active lifestyles amongst other young people
  • Promote learning in young people through the Olympic and Paralympic ideas and values of Respect, Friendship and Excellence

The Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership has been active within the Young Ambassador Programme for the last few years and now has Platinum, Gold and Silver Ambassadors. This group now meets on a monthly basis and is really starting to develop positive, active roles within schools and communities. The Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership is one of the first partnerships in England to include primary, middle and first schools in the Young Ambassador Programme.
